Project 18

What is Project 18?

Indiana has a serious problem with overweight kids – and studies show that if kids don’t change their behavior when they’re young, they’ll most likely always have trouble with their weight. That could mean a lifetime of health risks.

That’s why I’d like to do something about childhood obesity right now – and why I’d like to introduce you to Project 18: a program created for you and your family by the Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital at St.Vincent. We’ve developed a program to help kids and their parents set goals, eat smarter and get active – and we’d love for you to be involved.

Project 18 is an 18-week health and wellness curriculum designed to address the major risk behaviors in elementary and middle school students in the areas of nutrition, physical activity and holistic health. The curriculum is standards-based, addressing Indiana Health & Wellness Standards.

  • Project 18 is school friendly. Project 18 is flexible enough to fit as part of existing health and wellness programs at your school. The 18 lessons can also stand alone as a curriculum.
  • Project 18 is student friendly. It gives students an opportunity to move around and interact with their classmates. Students get to practice their skills in fun, real-life situations.
  • Project 18 is family friendly. It allows parents and caregivers to get directly involved in their child’s education with weekly information that correlates directly to the lessons taught in class.
